| | | Slide out controls maximize screen space. View larger. | The smallest, most portable PSP yet. View larger. | The Most Portable and Powerful PSP Yet The PSP Go, has all the functionality that older PSP hardware versions had, but includes many important and exciting changes. Unlike previous versions whose primary means of playing media was via a built-in Universal Media Disc (UMD) drive, the PSP Go does away with UMDs altogether and instead relies on a media solution combining download functionality via Sony's PlayStation Network, larger onboard storage capacity and removable Memory Stick Duo support. This major change allows for a slim design, quicker access files and a much more quiet, energy efficient gaming experience since there are no longer any spinning UMDs. Other major changes include: Bluetooth support, allowing Internet Skype calls to now be made using compatible headsets; and more importantly, a change to the control scheme. The PSP Go features convenient slide out controls. Although these are consistent with historical PSP controls--featuring four directional arrows, the four familiar Sony face buttons and a left-oriented analog thumbstick--their ability to be placed out of view when not in use allows the PSP Go to maximize the use of its screen and your viewing pleasure. A Full Entertainment System in Your Hands The PSP was designed to handle all varieties of applications and entertainment -- music, video, communication, wireless networking, and, of course, gaming. PSP Go users will enjoy topnotch 3D games with high-quality, full-motion video, and high-fidelity audio. Its ultra-crisp 3.8-inch wide screen LCD display is bright and beautiful, and works well under many different lighting conditions. A Wealth of Games to Choose From The PlayStation Portable gaming library is hundreds of titles strong and covers a wide variety of genres. The PSP Go is compatible with all PSP formatted games and Sony has pledged to have all these available for download via the PlayStation Network's PlayStation Store. Whether you are seeking the hard knocks of football or other sports games, the strategy of a puzzle games, or the action and adventure of shooters and racers, there's sure to be many games in your future with the PSP Go. Via the PlayStation Store users can also download an assortment of PS One games ported over to the PSP format. The PSP Go is capable of graphics quality that is comparable to the PlayStation 2 console, but in a pocket-sized package, so whatever your game is you can be assured of a quality experience. Watch Movies and Videos on the Go When you just want to sit back and enjoy a movie or video on a long plane trip, or anywhere else, the PSP Go has you covered. It offers two options to do this: you can either transfer media ahead of time to a Memory Stick Duo, or using the PSP Go's Wi-Fi functionality, your free membership to the PlayStation Network and access to a hotspot, you can download movies, TV shows, game trailers and more directly to your PSP Go. If users prefer they can also download content ahead of time to a PS3 or a Windows-based PC, via Media Go software, for faster transfer to their PSP Go, and can also watch recorded television content downloaded to a Memory Stick Duo with the TiVo-To-Go service. (additional fee and a TiVo Series2 connected to your home network also required). Music and Other Functionality With the ability to play MP3, WAV, WMA, ATRAC3+, and MP4 files, you can easily use your PSP Go as an audio player. Simply place your music on a Memory Stick Duo, and you can navigate your collection using the PSP Go's XMB (XrossMediaBar) to select your song to play. Built-in Wi-Fi Allows for Internet Browsing, Online Gaming and More With built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, you can access the Internet from any accessible hotspot. Once connected, you can surf the Web, check e-mail and visit the PlayStation Store to download games, exclusive demos and game content and even update your system and game software in seconds. The PSP Go is first and foremost a gaming device though. Ad hoc enabled multiplayer games allow PSP players in close proximity to play together, but your PSP Go's Wi-Fi connection also allows you to battle other gamers anywhere in the world over the Internet, in online infrastructure multiplayer games. Other functionality available remotely via a broadband connection includes: Internet radio; LocationFree TV, allowing you to view your home media setup from anywhere; RSS feeds; Remote Play, which gives you access to your PS3; and more. Sad March 12, 2010 J. Carter 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having digital downloads as an option is a great addition, but having it as the sole interface option is just stupid. What happens when you're done with a game that you paid $30 for? Oh... wait... You can't really sell it... And what if you're unsure about a game and want to rent it? Oh... wait... You can't. A demo doesn't always do the job, for me anyways. I just think that this was a really foolish move for a system, especially if it's more expensive than it's predecessor, and the games to download cost the same as buying the UMD. Stick with the PSP 3000, if you truly need a PSP. It has the same options, except it's got the option for UMDs. You can sell those if you're done with them, or they suck. Like this system.
A downgrade from PSP 3000 March 9, 2010 Huana Nguyen (Golden State) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
PRO: Size, sleek, tiny speakers are pretty good
CONS: Many!
I love Sony. I have every single consoles they make: PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP 1000, PSP 2000, and PSP 3000. I'm a gadget freak, so I gotta have PSP GO even though I read some bad review about it.
There's nothing different between PSP GO and other PSP except that it's smaller and doesn't use UMD.
First of all, it's too pricey, almost the same price as the PS3!
2) I know that it's smaller (and the screen is smaller too) but I didn't know that they also shrink down all the buttons! So for those with hands, you will not feel comfortable.
3) Thirdly, every single accessories for PSP GO is unique, you can no longer use your old PSP accessories for PSP GO any more: it uses its own special USB cable to transfer or charge, it uses the new (stupid) M2 memory card, not even its own Pro Duo MS any more!
4) The battery is not user friendly removable (just like the iphone) I read the manual and it seems a little bit easier than the iphone for those that are pretty handy. But still....
5) Since the games are stored in its memory, all the UMD you own will be useless and the digital games are pretty expensive. So, let say that you already own Street Fighter Alpha. Now, in order to play exactly the same game on the new PSP GO, you'll have to buy another copy of exactly the same game that you already owned?! How stupid is that! And the games are also expensive
6) It still has WiFi but only with wireless B! Most of the PSP games are big, so it takes forever to download a game! Why, Sony? Didn't you think about this? I would recommend to use Media installed on your PC to download and transfer games from Playstation Network to your PSP GO because it would be much faster this way and unlike PS3, once you start to download, you cannot exit and do something else on your PS3.
Anyway, I made a mistake trading in my PSP3000 for PSP GO. Now, I want it back! So, for those that already owned the PSP, I recommend not to upgrade it because PSP GO is just a downgrade. Nothing PSP does that other PSP can't And if you never own a PSP, I wouldn't recommend you to get this and get the slim PSP because it's cheaper, screen is bigger and battery is removable. And if you want to play games, you'll just need to go Gamestop or Toys'r us buy physical UMD and after you're done or get bored, you can always sell it back to Gamestop.
Again, the only thing I like about PSP GO is its size and that's it!
short and sweet~very limited games March 5, 2010 Lucas James (Portsmouth, Ohio) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I almost bought the PSP3000 because there were some games on the shelf that i like (xmen origins: wolverine), so i ask some questions and decided it would be better to get the PSP GO, then i could just download my games. So as i am going through the PSN, their games are crap and no xmen origins to DL. I feel robbed and limited with the PSP GO. what a money gimmick from hell. A question I also keep asking myself is "why are the games so expensive to download" and "the UMD's are cheaper?" I will probably return this tomorrow and get the other PSP. Blows my mind this thing is that generic. I can browse the internet and listen to songs and watch movies on my phone as a feature, so thats a no brainer there. If Playstation network gets all of the games up for download and come down in price then the psp go will be worth it, but the crappy games (some good ones)they have now limits what you as an individual may like to play.

I will keep my PSP 3000 thank you. March 3, 2010 S. Yousaf (Chicago, IL) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have a PSP 3000. I got PSP go because I read some positive reviews. However, after getting the PSP go and playing it for an hour, I decided to return it. Everything inside the PSP go looks the same as the previous models when powered on. I did not use the bluetooth because it was kind of useless for me. I sync PSP to my computer with PSP USB cable anyways. Sixteen gig is another upgrade but I already had a 16GB memory card in my PSP 3000. The fact is that it doesn't seem like an upgrade if you have the PSP 3000.
Great Device with one problem... The PlayStation Store March 2, 2010 Game Enthusiast (Atlanta, GA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased a PSPgo. I love the device. I spent $250 for it versus $170 for a regular PSP because I was convinced that a totally digital portable game system without a UMD disc drive was better. Boy was I wrong! My frustration stems from the pricing. I could purchase "God of War" on disc (UMD) from Amazon for $13. To download the same game from the PlayStation store was $20. To purchase "Secret Agent Clank" from Amazon on UMD is less than $15. To download the same game from the PlayStation store is $40. This is ridiculous!!!!! There are no media or packaging costs for Sony to sell downloadable games. I'm stuck with a new PSP and feel totally ripped off. Had I bought the regular PSP versus the PSPgo, I could be enjoying the same games at a competitively market driven price. Instead, I am stuck paying a price dictated by Sony through the PlayStation Store which is penalizing me for embracing new hardware.
Did I mention the device itself is awesome?
